Join us in April 2011 as we fly in the legendary footsteps of an Australian record-breaking hero and one of the world’s most legendary pilots, Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith. In 1928, the same year that the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) was founded, ‘Smithy’ exhibited amazing bravery as he took off on one of the most epic and daring flights in history. He became the first person to fly across the Pacific.

Jeremy (40) and Jim (79) are retracing this epic endeavour in a tiny single engine light aircraft, all in aid of the RFDS. The heroic daily work of the Flying Doctor pilots helps save lives and improves health in Australian communities. We want you to help us raise $700,000 to buy 7 ‘black box’ flight data recorders for their aircraft. Without them the Flying Doctor will be grounded.

Follow us in the media and online as we face a whole variety of dangers by crossing the world’s greatest ocean from San Francisco to Sydney. We’re using the latest cameras and GPS mapping and tracking to record the trip. Check in regularly to read our blog and see  if our trip resembles Smithy’s. We’ll use Kingsford Smith’s original 1928  flight log excerpts and radio commentary to compare our twin journeys.
